Free in Christ to Care for the Neighbor: Lutheran Youth Talk about
Human Sexuality
Free in Christ to Care for the Neighbor: Lutheran Youth Talk about
Human Sexuality was mailed to all ELCA congregations in September.
This adaptation of the December 2006 study, Free in Christ to Serve the
Neighbor, engages senior high youth through music, movie clips,
stories from young people, and activities. Bible study, prayer, and ELCA
social teachings provide a foundation for youth as they reflect on topics
such as
- When is sex OK?
- How do creation and sin impact my view of sex?
- How do I respond to the way sexuality is depicted in popular culture?
Free in Christ to Care for the Neighbor invites youth to apply a
faith perspective as they comment on the world they live in. Each of the
six sessions features a take-home handout to help families continue the
discussion.
Youth and leaders will be able to log on to an accompanying Web site
and share their ideas in an online discussion forum.
Check the ELCA website for more information and copies of materials.

Jesus
Justice
Jazz
JESUS JUSTICE JAZZ is the theme for the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering,
to be held July 22-26, 2009, in New Orleans.
This theme draws from the rich faith history, diverse cultures, and arts
of New Orleans. The focus will be on service and justice: Exploring what
makes the city of New Orleans unique and seeking to understand the changes
it is going through as the entire Gulf Coast region continues to recover
from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Youth and adults will be immersed in worship, music, Bible study, service,
learning, play, prayer, the witness of faithful leaders from around the
world, reflection, caring for others, and new friendships.
The 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering registration brochure has been mailed to
every ELCA congregation. PDF versions (color or black and white) are
available on the
Gathering website. Registration opens September 15, 2008; it will be
done through an
online process.
Be sure to visit the
Gathering website often and explore the links to see what new
information is posted or changing.
Kathy Schaeffer is the coordinator for synod information about and
meetings for the Gathering.
