IJCU DAY OF DIALOGUE

Fears and Faith is the topic of IJCU's Day of Dialogue on Sunday, May 4, 2008, from 1-5:30 p.m. at the Islamic Center in Whitehall. The conference will explore the ways various religious traditions support people in fearful times. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS EVENTS

  • On Wednesday, May 21, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., a Disaster Preparedness Training Event on "Emotional and Spiritual Care in Disasters " will be held in the Community Room at the Church on the Mall, 500 West Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA. Designed by Church World Service, the training is for pastors, denominational leaders, church board leaders, Stephen and Lay Care providers and disaster responders. Participants will be asked to complete 20-30 minutes of online training before the class. To express your interest, contact Presbyterian Disaster Assistance at pda@pcusa.org with the subject line, ESCD training.
  • Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville, is offering a free pandemic exercise and psychological first aid training for the faith based community on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (lunch provided). UNITED METHODIST CHURCH VOTES FOR FULL COMMUNION

The United Methodist Church (UMC) voted and approved this week an implementing resolution of full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America at that church's General Conference meeting in Fort Worth, Texas. The ELCA Church Council will consider recommending an implementing resolution for full communion with the UMC in the coming months, which would then be passed on to the ELCA Eleventh Churchwide Assembly for further consideration in 2009. The UMC and the ELCA entered into a relationship of interim Eucharistic sharing as of the ELCA Ninth Churchwide Assembly in Florida in 2005.

This investment requires a $2500 minimum deposit and must be a new investment and cannot be a transfer from an existing investment.   • Bear Creek Camp is looking for registered nurses or EMTs to volunteer for a week during the upcoming summer camp season. Meals and lodging will be provided, along with a $200 weekly stipend. Nurses are still needed for sessions 2 (June 29-July3), 3 (July 6-12), 4 (July 13-19), 7 (July 3-9), and 8 (July 10-16).   • Bear Creek Camp is accepting resumes for its assistant director position. This person directs the camp’s programs, many of the day-to-day operations, retreat rentals, and volunteer projects. Requirements include experience and skills in outdoor ministry, program administration, solid faith, bachelor’s degree, and strong communication skills. Inquiries can be directed to exdir@bearcreekcamp.org through April 13.

Looking for... (2-29-08)
Information about or samples of constitutions/bylaws for Sunday schools. Pastor Mary Gade (Ziegels, Breinigsville) has checked with some union congregations about these but has not found any yet. She would prefer to not to "reinvent the wheel," so if you have information or examples, please contact Pastor Gade at 610-285-6157.

Organist/Choir Director for St. John’s Lutheran Church, Williams Township, Easton, Pa. Play for one Sunday service (10:15 A.M.) and some additional services. Alternative Worship Music Leader (1-22-08)
Alternative Worship Music Leader (part-time, 6-10 hours per month), Allegheny, Knauers (Mohnton). Responsible for working with the pastor, music director, and other staff to plan and lead music for a monthly alternative worship service. Responsible for choosing music and planning rehearsals with those from the congregation interested in offering their instrumental and/or vocal skills in leading the congregation in worship. Qualifications: A knowledge of and passion for emerging worship styles and music. Leadership ability and dedication to the integrity of the worship of God. Knowledge of Lutheran liturgy a plus.
