Resolution of Appreciation to Christ Lutheran Church, Schoenersville Actions on Resolutions Election Results Assembly Information Resolution of Appreciation to Christ Lutheran Church, Schoenersville Whereas our God, who makes all things new, continues to call us to grow in faith in an ever-changing world, and Whereas the people of Christ Lutheran Church, Schoenersville, have been faithful witnesses to God’s love for 230 years, and Whereas the members of Christ, Schoenersville, having heard God’s call to continue their ministry by merging with St. John Lutheran Church, Bath, have made a gracious gift of their property to be used as the offices of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod, therefore be it Resolved, that the members of this synod give thanks for the generations of dedicated Christians who have heard God’s Word, gathered at the Lord’s Table, and served their neighbors at Christ Lutheran Church, Schoenersville, and be it further Resolved, that the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod in assembly expresses its gratitude for the generosity of the people of Christ, Schoenersville, and be it further Resolved, that all those gathered here today join the members of Christ, Schoenersville, in renewing our commitment to sharing the Good News of God’s love, forgiveness and endless gift of salvation, here in Northeastern Pennsylvania and to the ends of the earth.Action on Resolutions The assembly took the following actions on resolutions presented during the assembly. Please note that the full text of the resolutions adopted will appear pending the review of the assembly minutes. Approved a resolution that urged the ELCA Church Council to take all necessary actions to fulfill the commitments in the social statement on economic life for Augsburg-Fortress employees and retirees who are suffering significantly reduced income. Adopted the 2011 program proposal. Affirmed the action of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Congregational Services, Inc., to become an affiliate of Liberty Lutheran Services, Inc., a social ministry organization of the ELCA, on or about July 1, 2010. Approved a resolution to ask synod congregations to support the fight against world hunger by participating in A Month of Potlucks during the summer of 2010 and/or during June 2011. Failed to approve a resolution to memorialize the 2011 ELCA Churchwide Assembly to rescind two actions of the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly relating to persons in publicly accountable lifelong, monogamous, same-gender relationships. Adopted a resolution asking synod rostered leaders, congregations and social ministry organizations to commit themselves to the action of the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly “to bear one another's burdens, love the neighbor, and respect the bound consciences of all” for the sake of the unity of this church. Postponed indefinitely action on a resolution relating to the Kairos Palestine Document. Adopted a resolution that we commit ourselves to thoughtful and intentional use of the world’s resources and incorporate care for God’s good creation into our full life and mission. His presentations were entitled Something to Savor: Learning to Love the Bible; The Joy of Empathy: Finding Yourself in the World of the Bible; and Social Location: The Timeless Tale of a Prodigal Son. Dr. Powell was well-received when he spoke at the 2009 LIFT event. In addition to being one of the writers of Opening the Book of Faith, the first resource in the ELCA Book of Faith initiative. Dr. Powell—who began his journalistic career in the ‘70s as a rock music critic for The Houston Post—is also regarded as a leading expert on the subject of "contemporary Christian music." He has published over 1900 reviews of Christian recordings and is the author of a one-thousand-page encyclopedia that is regarded as the definitive reference work on the subject. Dr. Mark Allan Powell, professor of New Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH, offered three presentations during the assembly around the theme, The Bible as Our Book of Faith.
